If I were you I would minor in political science and choose something else. I have a bachelors degree in political science and there are absolutely no jobs in that field with out a PHD not even a masters degree will get you very far (believe me I have looked into it). I had to go back and earn my Masters of Teaching to find a job that had little to no room for advancement and paid more than $25,000 a year! If you would like to do an MBA look into to business administration, advertising, or marketing for your BA major because political science will not help you. I also have 2 uncles and an aunt who are engineering field and they make good money unlike several of my friends who have MBAs and earn around $35K my uncles and aunts all earn around $85K a year. (Admin Note: this is in Australia.) I hope this helps good luck with school! Was this answer helpful?

Actually be careful with the PhD in the business world. Some employers shy away from hiring PhDs for non-research intensive positions. So wait on the PhD if you don’t want to be an academic. Have you just graduated? Are you working now? If you’ve just graduated, I strongly suggest that you not get another degree just yet. Instead, work for a couple of years first, get some work experience on your resume. Then look at another degree, if you even feel it’s worthwhile at that point. This approach will make you more attractive to future employers, should you chose to get that MBA. Was this answer helpful?

      • admin says:

        Htissi,

You make some good points about PhD in business, especially in North America. PhD’s are much more of a business status symbol in Germany. Waiting a few years, and getting some good management experience is a very good strategy before embarking on a post-grad degree.

What about something like data miinng? Or you might find something at UCR’s Sloan Center for Internet Retailing, since their website (sloan.ucr.edu/panel) has a list of articles related to online retailing which might give you some ideas.

    • Tariq says:

MBA. MBA works well for advancement. If you don’t want to be an acaimedc, that is definatly what I would run towards. However, it might be worth it to do the PhD afterwords just to have a one up on the person next to you with the MBA. That will probably matter when promotions come around because now everyone gets an MBA an MBA and PhD rare.Plus, an MBA will take two years compared to how long a PhD could really take so I would do the MBA then re-evaluate later on if the PhD would increase your competitive edge on the rest of the people in the office. Was this answer helpful?

    • Ruvell says:

Great insight! That’s the answer we’ve been lokoing for.
